What is surface tension?

Why do you think this water beads up?

Why do you think this water beads up like this?  Water is a really cool molecule, composed of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. The properties of water are the reason why water is important to living things. The stickiness of water, cohesion or surface tension, is one of the most important properties of water. The hydrogen atoms are arranged on either side of the 1 oxygen atom and are slightly positive charged and are attracted to the oxygen atoms of other nearby water molecules. This is known as Hydrogen bonding.  The hydrogen atoms attraction to other water molecules cause the water to bead up.

Based upon this picture what do you think a rain drop looks like?  Were you right? How is the shape of a rain drop related to surface tension?
